What do you do?

My role as a responder is an important one. I support people with planned short-term care at home visits, while also responding to personal alarms via our telecare system.

Alarms could be worn by a person, or pull cords located in people’s homes. They provide extra support and access to immediate help for those who need it.

What is telecare?

Telecare is a monitoring service that offers remote support to elderly, disabled and vulnerable people who live alone in their own homes.

When a person needs help, they use their alarm to let us know. We can then contact the emergency services if needed, or pop in to their home to give them a hand with whatever they are struggling with.

What do you like most about your job?

No two nights are the same. I’m never sure what to expect from a shift, and I thrive on this challenge. I also love the team I work with; we are like family.  Each one us brings a different skill to the role, and we support each other professionally and personally.

What surprised you about working here?

How essential responders are to keeping people at home in their communities, and how these services support wider social care and NHS goals.

I also appreciate how we do social care differently. At Carr Gomm, it’s not about saying we can only spend 15 minutes with someone. Instead, it’s about being flexible enough to ensure someone feels safe and happy.
