Career story
What do you do?
Every day is different. I often:
- develop and deliver training
- craft and edit videos
- project manage learning and development activities
- work collaboratively across our services
- understand training gaps and facilitate new ways of learning
What do you like most about your job?
As a learning and development manager, one of the most satisfying moments is when staff are confused or worried about a certain area of their job role and we discuss it and you can see their eyes light up as they suddenly get it. That’s the most rewarding part of my role. I enjoy training and I always learn something whilst training people, which I also find very gratifying.

What surprised you about working here?
To learn how creative it is. Even when I was working within our support services, it was a great place to think on your feet and come up with creative solutions to problems. In the past year, I have been involved in lots of creative projects, including video editing. I never thought I’d get to do a passion/hobby of mine as part of my day-to-day, so it’s been really amazing.

What’s the work/life balance like?
Covid-19 has made the way we work at Carr Gomm very different and I think there is more flexibility in the way we work now. I’m able to manage my time a lot better, which leads to a greater work/life balance.
