We celebrated World Social Work Day on the 17th March, by sharing our learning from our Digital Inclusion Programme with social workers in East Lothian.
Many aspect of our lives are now online; whether that is managing our finances, doing our shopping or keeping up with friends and family.
People we support are at significantly increased risk of being digitally excluded; supercharging existing inequalities across health, housing and social connection. In today’s digital world, internet access is no longer a luxury but a fundamental human right.
For the last five years, Shannon McNee (Digital Inclusion Development Manager), has been working with staff and people we support to learn more about people’s digital needs to ensure everyone has the choice and opportunity to get online if they want to.
At the World Social Work Day event in Haddington, we shared the progress of our Digital Inclusion Programme and ways that it could provide support to social workers as they work alongside people who have social care in their lives. By linking up with our colleagues in social work, we are moving towards ensuring that digital inclusion and the choice to get online is embedded into people’s support from the outset.
