What do you do?
As a Community development, I can work with up to 50 people a week within different work settings. I often:
- facilitate and help coordinate events for the community
- develop open green spaces such as sensory gardens
- develop material for schools and teachers to use
- connect organisations and help with referrals
- develop new programmes with local organisations
What do you like most about your job?
I am autonomous, which I like, but the job requires a lot of lone working and managing complex issues that people may experience on their own.
I wanted to work outdoors with people to make them feel more alive, healthier, and more connected. I like the variety, the freedom, the ability to start projects up with organisations and the community.

Do you have any top tips for someone considering a career as a community link worker?
My top tip is to always be flexible, have many ideas and experiences to draw on, be guided by what people want and need, mostly it’s an ear and a chat. Be wary of giving advice, just be there in any capacity that you can.
