What do you do?
I am the manager of the Carr Gomm charity shop in Inverness. Donations to our shop help us support people in the Highlands, particularly in helping us reduce loneliness and isolation in local communities.
I have been running the shop for 13 years and I still love it every day. Making sure that we receive regular donations can be challenging, so I do all that I can to encourage donations and create inspiring shopping experiences for people.
My role also includes organising promotional events, including:
- two successful fashion shows
- tombola and raffles
- coffee and lunch get-togethers
What surprised you about working here?
It’s not so much about what we do in the shop, but the joy and happiness our fundraising efforts have on our local communities.
One example is a coffee morning we organised for people supported, with raffles, bingo, and yummy home baking. The enjoyment on people’s faces and positive comments was hugely rewarding.
What’s the work/life balance like?
My work/life balance is just right for me. I work part-time, which means I have enough time to spend time with my son, and to read. I am a massive Harlan Coban fan. We recently moved to Inverness, so that means even more time to start new hobbies, like painting and Spanish lessons.
