Raising Awareness for Housing Support at St. Conan’s Kirk Christmas Tree Festival
This festive season, our team at Oban Housing Support wanted to raise awareness about homelessness and the support they offer in the local community. When they saw the St. Conan’s Kirk Christmas Tree Festival advertised, they knew it as the perfect opportunity to get involved and share their message.
Veronica Spiers, Support Practitioner shared:
“We saw it advertised on Facebook and wanted to enter and thought it would be a good way to raise awareness and something festive to take part in. Decorations developed through chat in the office, we asked people who came into the office what their house meant to them, we asked them to write a couple of words, some people chose to decorate their house as well as write on it.”
St. Conan’s Kirk, located in the picturesque village of Loch Awe, has been hosting their Christmas festival for several years, inviting local people and community groups to decorate trees for the community to enjoy. This year, there were over 60 entries, and visitors voted for their favourite tree over the weekend.
The team worked together to create a tree that not only captured the spirit of the holiday season but also helped raise awareness of homelessness and the housing support offered by Carr Gomm. As part of the effort, they invited a supported person to join in decorating the tree, making it a fun and collaborative experience.
A huge thank you goes to St. Conan’s Kirk for hosting the event, and to everyone who contributed to the tree. The team hopes the display sparked important conversations and reminded everyone of the importance of community and kindness during the holiday season.
