Be a part of Carr Gomm by joining our Board!
Our Board of Directors is made up of a variety of individuals, all of whom contribute to the effective running of our organisation. What will you bring to the table?
What is the Board of Directors?
Our Directors are the people who take responsibility under the law to ensure Carr Gomm does what it says it will. Our Directors sit on our Board and meet approximately every 8 weeks. The Directors do not run the company – that is the job of the staff – but they ensure we meet our overall charitable and business objectives and think strategically about the long term future of the organisation.
As a registered charity we are governed by laws relating to charities in Scotland as well. People who run a charity are called Trustees. The same people who are Directors of the company are also the Trustees.
Who can be a Director?
Anyone who is a Company Member can be a Director. There are no specific qualifications or prior board experience needed – we want to have a mix of people with a variety of skills and lived experiences.
The Directors are people who bring particular skills and understanding to the work of the Board. Some people know about one area (e.g. finance or community care policy), someone else knows about another area (e.g. how our support services should work). All Directors must share the values of the company and make balanced and fair decisions. We want to build a diverse board and actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds – particularly those from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic communities.
Each individual starts by being able to contribute their knowledge and learns about the other areas when they are on the Board. Want to know more about being a Director and the role of the Board? Have a read of the job description.
“I’m super proud of being a trustee and feel extremely privileged to see the impactful work that Carr Gomm does across Scotland each and every day.”
Our Director recruitment process for 2025 has now closed. We expect to reopen applications at some point in 2026. Please check back then for opportunities to get involved.
