Carr Gomm is recruiting a Deputy Chief Executive to help lead our Scottish social care and community development charity. Discover the role, our culture, and why this could be the right next step for you.

We are looking for someone who not only understands the sector, but someone who believes we can make it better. Someone who leads with purpose, listens deeply, and brings people with them. Someone who will work collaboratively across the sector, supporting Carr Gomm’s ambition to be a bold voice for change and a champion for those too often unheard.

Carr Gomm is recruiting a Deputy Chief Executive, and we are looking for an exceptional leader to help us write the next chapter.

Who we are

Carr Gomm is a Scottish social care and community development charity. We work across Scotland, from supported living, responder, visiting and care at home services, to community development projects that help people build connections, confidence, and independence.

What unites everything we do is a commitment to supporting people to live their best lives, in their own communities and to do the things that matter to them. Our work is guided by our values of respect, interdependence, choice, control, openness and honesty, kindness, and compassion.

We work hard to ensure people can access the right support, at the right time, and we are always looking for creative ways to do that better. You can read more about our vision and direction in our Strategic Plan

The support I have received has been life changing – and I do not say that lightly. If I had not received the support I would not be where I am today.” Charley, Person Supported by Carr Gomm

Where we are right now

This is an exciting time to join Carr Gomm. Our new Chief Executive stepped into post last year together with an experienced Executive Team, we are building on strong foundations and looking ahead with real ambition.

Our Strategic Plan sets out the direction of travel, and our most recent Impact Report shows the difference we are already making to the lives of the people we support across Scotland.

The social care landscape in Scotland is evolving rapidly. There are challenges, but there are also real opportunities to shape what comes next. We are well placed to respond, and we want a Deputy Chief Executive who can help us do that with confidence and creativity.

“Supporting people to live their best lives.”

What we stand for

Carr Gomm is a person-centred organisation, and that applies to our staff just as much as the people we support.

Our Futures programme gives staff at every level a genuine voice in how we develop and grow. We are proud holders of the LGBT Charter and are a Disability Confident Employer. We take health and wellbeing seriously: all colleagues, regardless of their role, have access to the Carr Gomm App, which provides free counselling, health coaching, and physiotherapy online.

We also collaborate globally. Our international collaborations project facilitates learning and knowledge exchanges across the world, bringing fresh perspectives into everything we do.

What you will be leading

The Deputy Chief Executive reports to the Chief Executive and holds direct responsibility for all contractual operations across the organisation. Based in Edinburgh with travel across Scotland, you will work closely with the Chief Executive and Executive Team to deliver our Strategic Plan, lead a high-performing team, and champion services that make a genuine difference.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced, grounded leader who leads with purpose and brings people with them. Someone who is as comfortable listening to a person we support as they are presenting to a Board or making the case for change at a national level.

The best Deputy Chief Executives are creative, results-driven, and self-motivated. Ambassadors, analytical thinkers, excellent storytellers, and passionate advocates for a more equitable society.

You will bring significant leadership experience, ideally in the third or public sector, a strong understanding of Scotland’s social care policy landscape, and the resilience and financial acumen to help shape what comes next. Experience within the social care sector is essential.
