A successful year for Carr Gomm’s National Involvement Group!
Carr Gomm’s National Involvement Group is a network of people supported by Carr Gomm who contribute to the organisation’s strategic direction and effect change in the social care sector. They are part of Carr Gomm’s commitment to amplify the voices of people we support so they can influence good change in Carr Gomm and social care across Scotland. They have contributed to Carr Gomm’s Strategic Plan, the Independent Review of Adult Social Care and recent discussions and consultations on the National Care Service.
Read their 2024 review, below, to hear about the incredible work they have achieved.

Connections
Members of the Involvement Group and Carr Gomm staff came together to celebrate the group’s successes, with a New Year’s Lunch in Edinburgh.

Influencing Scottish Parliament
Becs went to the Scottish Parliament as part of the Post Legislative Scrutiny on Self-directed Support. While there, she shared the Involvement Group’s message about the importance of choice and of making decisions together.

Carr Gomm’s Strategic Plan
The Involvement Group shared their ideas and contributed to the creation of the latest Carr Gomm Strategic Plan.
Supporting Partnerships
The Involvement Group helped our Carr Gomm partners, Ember, to think about a website they are designing for the Loch Lomond National Park. They wanted the views of members on the accessibility of their website.
Digital Inclusion
The Involvement Group helped Shannon, our Digital Inclusion Manager, to develop Open Minds, a digital inclusion initiative, and to think of ways to involve other people in Carr Gomm to have their say.
Fundraising
The Involvement Group met with Kat, our Fundraising Officer, to learn about fundraising and to share ideas. These included Linda, an Involvement Group member, doing a sponsored walk around Glasgow Green.
International Collaborations
Rebecca, our International Collaborations Manager, helped the Involvement Group link up with a group of people in Ukraine. They were able to meet with them over Zoom and discuss their favourite hobbies. Another meeting in 2025 is planned.
National Care Service
The Involvement Group influenced and followed the development of the National Care Service. As part of this, we welcomed Rachel McGruer, a Scottish Government Civil Servant, to meet with us for the second time. At the end of the year, the group felt let down when we heard that Ministers had decided not to continue with all the plans. We hoped that the National Care Service would help everyone in Scotland who needs it, to be able to access good quality social care. We were reassured that Carr Gomm is safe and our support will continue.
Involvement
The Involvement Group discussed what ‘Involvement’ should look like in Carr Gomm, and we will continue to contribute as our voices matter.
Thank you to all the National Involvement Group members for making a difference to Carr Gomm in 2024!
