We welcomed Tom Arthur MSP to Carr Gomm to discuss how we can unlock the potential of the social care sector.

The Minister for Social Care and Mental Wellbeing heard about the impact of our amazing services, including:

  • Our Responder teams in Argyll & Bute who made over 50,000 visits in 2024-2025, keeping people safe and well in their own home and preventing readmission to hospital and unnecessary ambulance callouts.
  • Our Mental Health Discharge service in Glasgow where 74% of the people supported by this service experience a successful and sustainable discharge and live well in their own home.
  • Our work across Scotland in supporting people who live in hospital or in unsuitable out-of-area placements to live in their own home, wherever home is for them.

Carr Gomm has the solutions to many of the challenges facing people and communities in Scotland. They are shown through our creative and innovative services designed around the people we support.

We agreed on the need for a constructive conversation across all of society on what we want the future of social care to look like. We also discussed the impact of UK and Scottish Government policies, including the importance of overseas worker sponsorship to our organisation, as well as the ongoing effects of the current adult social care wage and the recent rise in Employer National Insurance Contributions.

We need to better understand the importance of adult social care to our society and to resource our sector to reflect its importance. When this happens, more people will be able to access truly person-centred support wherever they live in Scotland.
