“Glasgow South team support people to attend local activities, promote independence and combat loneliness and isolation.
As the Involvement Champion, my role is to introduce activities that everyone can join in and enjoy. Presently, we run activities like walking groups, games groups and photography groups. In the past, we have also ran cycling, fishing and tennis groups.
We fund these groups by getting everyone involved, including the PWS, in our fundraising activities like the kiltwalk. We have also had a race night, football cards and Christmas and Easter raffles.
The money that we raise can also be used for other things, such as if a person we support is taken into hospital and needs pyjamas, underwear, or any other items. We have also used this money for bus tickets so people we support can attend activities and shopping when they have no money and are waiting to get their benefits sorted or the food banks open.
The people we support enjoy these groups as they have the choice to decide how these groups are run and get to share ideas. There have been occasions where supported people have met up and joined other local groups out with Carr Gomm groups.”
