I joined Carr Gomm’s board in 2013 and am also Chair of the Finance Committee.

I have a lot of experience in both finance and risk management. This helps me understand Carr Gomm’s financial position and allows me to take a ‘big picture view’ on what’s important.

Having worked for a large financial services company for over twenty years, I also know a thing or two about good governance and I’ve enjoyed playing a small role in improving our board effectiveness over my time here.

My main motivation for joining the board was to use my skills to make a difference to the lives of people who are in need of support.

Away from work, I enjoy spending time in the great outdoors with my family whether that be walking, cycling or camping. I love good food (particularly Moroccan, Thai and Indian) and good wine.

I’m also an avid reader. I like non-fiction as I really enjoy learning, especially about people’s lives. I’m also partial to a historical novel - coming from Greenock, I’ve just enjoyed a book set in WWII around a true event of a ship sinking in the Clyde under mysterious circumstances.

With two kids and a busy job, I usually can’t stay awake through a whole film so I prefer a good box set!

When thinking about someone that inspires me, Helen Keller springs to the front of my mind. Despite being deaf and blind, and therefore unable to speak for many years, she became a political activist for social inequality amongst other things. I watched a documentary about her when I was wee and have never forgotten the impact she had on me.
