I started working at Carr Gomm in mid-March 2020, during the uncertain Covid-19 period, as the Operations Manager in Business Development Manager. My responsibilities include leading the Carr Gomm’s communications, marketing, fundraising and competitive tendering activity.

It was a strange but memorable period starting a new job during that time, particularly having to work from home just three days in.  A key motivation is having a work routine that gets me up in the morning, fills my day with interesting and often unexpected things and allows me to socially engage with a range of wonderful colleagues while physically distancing – which is challenging for an active extrovert!

Originally from NZ, I started my career in journalism. Coming to Scotland in 2002, I only planned to stay two years – but haven’t left yet. I ‘fell’ into media relations with my first job - working in the press office for Lothian and Borders Police and have continued working in corporate communications for a range of public sector and governmental organisations. This included five years with the City of Edinburgh Council, a year with the Scottish Parliament and two years with the Scottish Government, working as a communication and engagement consultant on health and social care policy. I also headed up the marketing and communications functions at NHS Borders and Edinburgh Bio Quarter.

I have a keen interest in sports and fitness and I teach fitness classes in my spare time as well as spending time with family and friends, reading crime novels and listening to a wide range of music.
