Recent research from the Good Things Foundation highlights that 44% of people in Scotland are digitally excluded; meaning that they lack essential digital skills or access to an appropriate device or internet connection.
At Carr Gomm, many of the people we support are at risk while this digital divide continues to grow.
We have invested in a new digital inclusion project to find out more about the digital needs of the people we support – and Carr Gomm staff – to ensure that everyone has the choice and opportunity to get online in a safe and meaningful way.

What is digital inclusion?
Digital inclusion is the process of working with people and communities to ensure they can get online. It is made up of three key components:
What is the Digital Inclusion Research Project?
Working in partnership with nine Carr Gomm services, we’re running a series of small pilot projects, exploring how we can best support people to develop essential digital skills, while also looking to better understand the impact of being digitally connected on social isolation.
Each pilot is supported by a team of digital ambassadors; support practitioners who are passionate about supporting people, and their teams, to become digitally connected.
Learnings will help shape our digital support offering, ensuring that digital connection is no longer seen as optional, but instead a fundamental human right.
