Kit began her support with Carr Gomm in 2012. We initially provided day-to-day help with carrying out essential tasks at home, but her support has since flourished into so much more.

A few words from Kit

My first support practitioners were Ben and Alex. They were just fantastic; geeky and artistic like me, we had a lot to talk about. I’ve always been matched with likeminded people which makes it all the easier.

A different approach to support

Carr Gomm has been instrumental in my life, and I can’t imagine my life without them. Support has been provided on so many levels, and I am still friends with my support workers.

Over the years, Carr Gomm has been by side, always encouraging. With support, I was able to return to college to pursue my passion for art. So much so, I am now streaming my art and illustrating on the platform Twitch. I have doubled my community in the space of two months!

I feel like my hopes and dreams do matter, and that support really is different with Carr Gomm.

Covid changed things for people in my position

My life really has been flipped upside down in the last 18 months. Not only did I put on weight, but also experienced more debilitating physical boundaries. Like many people, I had to shield. My mental health began to suffer as I navigated the breakdown of my relationship, and I often felt isolated and alone.

To top off a difficult year, at 34 I was then diagnosed with autism and ADHD.

Getting my focus back

The diagnosis actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise. New medication has helped me feel more like myself again and has allowed me to get my focus back. My perspective has changed and I have found clarity within myself.

For the first time in a while, my future feels exciting again.
