To learn about a new culture, one of our Edinburgh residential services recently organised a Spanish- themed lunch.

Support practitioners Maria and Gill came up with the idea. They wanted to do something new, fun, and more creative for the people they support. The idea grew quickly and soon became a full Spanish day celebration.

A tapas menu was researched, ingredients bought, and menu translated. The whole day was filled with scrumptious regional treats, from baked eggs, tomatoes and peppers for breakfast, to tapas and traditional tortilla for lunch. Dinner was the pieza d resistencia, beef with a delicious marinade and broccoli.

There were also lots of themed decorations, with the whole room having a fiesta feel – full of colour, fun and warmth.

For the activities, flamenco shows were shown in the afternoon, traditional music was played throughout the day, and everyone enjoyed a Spanish movie in the evening. Maria said: “We all had a great day, learning about a new culture and creating a fun fiesta atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.”
