Get involved Fundraising What we do with your money Midlothian Drop-In Our Midlothian team have been busy renovating their empty office basement into a “Drop in” service for people we support. They have been using funding from Carr Gomm Futures to transform a once neglected space into a vibrant relaxed environment, with comfy couches and a designated chill zone. Nikki, local service manager in Midlothian, commented: “The idea is that the space is utilised by staff and people supported. We are hoping to tackle social isolation and bring some structure to people’s support.” Following consultation with local people, the Midlothian team now plan to run a range of activities such as coffee mornings, computer classes, dominoes, or arts and crafts; all with the aim of tackling social isolation. Local people involved are over the moon with the progress, and have already been sharing ideas on a new name for the basement area: “The Blether Box” or “Midlothian Community Club”. Nikki reiterated how important the project is for the local community and those we support; the space will be of great benefit. "The "Drop-in" is providing an extra resource for people to use, to connect with others and participate in activities that we can take for granted in our own lives. With limited funding available, people often can’t afford such opportunities; we want to fill that gap through this local resource.” Work on the project is ongoing. The Midlothian team are now seeking more funds to further develop the project, to ensure enough resources can be provided to deliver a varied programme of activities throughout the year.
