My journey with Carr Gomm initially began when I was placed here as part of RSM’s charity board initiative for young people. I was matched with Carr Gomm due to my interest in social and community work and my previous work with the National Autistic Society. I have been a board member since November 2021 and have really enjoyed being part of Carr Gomm’s journey since then.
Whilst gaining experience via the scheme, I sat in on ATLAS and Futures meetings and I had the opportunity to learn more about what Carr Gomm does, meet amazing staff members and learn about people they support. I am really passionate about Carr Gomm’s people-centred philosophy and how they take so much care to cultivate its people centred culture at every level of the organisation. From what I have seen, Carr Gomm truly values the people it supports.
Through many volunteer and work roles, I have experienced the ‘frontline’ of various charities. I view this first-hand knowledge on the perspectives of charity work as highly beneficial to bring to a charity board. Currently, I work in the private office for a health and social care minister, so I get to understand how government interacts with the social care system and sometimes get to see it in action on visits. It’s great to be part of Carr Gomm’s journey and bring my energy and enthusiasm to the board.
When I’m not working, I enjoy salsa dancing, roller blading and hanging out with friends and family. I also love being outside and try to get out on my bike or walking as much as possible.
