Having a great attitude towards health and well-being is important to us at Carr Gomm. We ensure people supported and staff have the right resources and facilities to support their journeys. We love to share positive news about people’s achievements. Over lockdown, we have been overwhelmed by everyone’s sheer strength to keep on going, despite the challenges they face.

Yvonne is one of our team from Forth Valley. Today, she talks to us about why keeping fit is something she’s keen to focus on over the coming months.

Yvonne’s story:

I've never been one for New Year’s resolutions, but this year was different. For the first time, I decided that a resolution may well help me achieve my fitness goals. I am determined to keep this one. When I make promises, I always intend to keep them. So, why not make a promise to me?

This year, my journey is going to be even more health focussed. Over the past year, I worked really hard to maintain my well-being, and dropped two dress sizes as a consequence. Having something to work towards was important during the uncertainties of multiple lockdowns. I now feel better than ever and know that a year of health is just the challenge I need to keep ongoing. Part of this challenge is trying not to eat confectionery. It’s going to be difficult, but I’m going to give it my best shot!

Although we’re only a month into 2021, I’ve increased my exercise by walking my gorgeous dog, Buddy. With the weather turning more treacherous, I even treated myself to a treadmill, a new pair of running shoes, and a tracksuit (as I’m usually more of jeans and t-shirt kind of girl).

I’ve also changed my eating habits by making simple healthy changes to my meals. I’ve enjoyed cooking with my son, who is keen to become a chef one day. This quality time together has been really important, and we’ve both learned to cook new meals from scratch.

My next step is to continue putting my health first and perhaps pursue some of my other lockdown projects. One that I’m proud of is Creative Canvasses by Yvonne; with all proceeds going to various charities close to my heart.
