Marc joins our team in Midlothian Meet Marc. He recently joined the Carr Gomm family and wanted to share his experience of working on the frontline for our organisation. We are always eager to capture the different types of support being delivered by staff, to highlight the variety of support we provide for people in our communities. Here is what Marc had to say. Hi Marc, how long have you worked for us ? I have worked here for 3 months. Describe a typical day with a person supported? There isn’t a typical day! Everyone is different. No two people are the same and no two visits are the same – that’s what makes each day interesting. What motivates you to come to work? The feeling of going home and knowing you have made a difference to someone’s life. Even the simple things, like supporting someone to make eggs on toast for breakfast can be the highlight of their day. What do you like about our values? I have learnt the value of personal choice and interdependence. We have been in lockdown for quite a significant amount of time and you really begin to understand how important it is to speak to people, spend time with those we care about, and share the things that inspire us. I came to Carr Gomm because I wanted to support people in a way that helped them realise and achieve their greatness. It’s about respect for each other. What do you like to do in your spare time? I am a knitwear designer so spend a lot of time knitting samples on my giant electronic machines. I also sew a lot – clothes, curtains…you name it. What’s your life motto? Just be nice to each other!
