It’s important for both staff and people supported at Carr Gomm to have a positive attitude towards health and well-being. We work really hard to create resources and put in place facilities that support people in their journeys. We also love to share positive news about people’s achievements.

Over lockdown, we have been overwhelmed by everyone’s sheer strength to keep on going, despite the challenges they face. Ekaterina, our operations manager for the East of Scotland, talks to us about her new fitness challenge.

Tell us about the challenge?

Last September, I joined a virtual running/walking challenge. The aim is to walk 876 miles from Lands’ End in England to John O’Groats in Scotland, so from one end of the country to the other. It has been something that has kept me going, both physically and mentally.

What inspired you to take part?

As a member of the rugby club, we were always training intensely, but lockdown restrictions meant I had to find a new way to keep fit. The online End to End challenge has both inspired me and motivated me to continue with my workouts.

How do you feel now that you've started?

It has been enriching, and it feels great to challenge myself. Not only because of the milestone rewards received. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I could be someone who could run 7/8 miles a session.

I am halfway through my challenge and I feel focused. It’s a great distraction from being at home all day. I feel like I am part of a wider community of people who are also doing similar virtual challenges.
