Do you want to do something truly extraordinary? Do you want to take on the challenge of a lifetime whilst raising money to tackle loneliness in Scotland?

Then how do you fancy enjoying breakfast at sunrise with a view across Africa on 21 February 2021?  That's right, tea and toast from Uhuru peak at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro at the conclusion of five days tough ascent through dense tropical rainforest, scrub moorland and then snow and ice.

There are many reasons to sit comfortably at home – it is warm, dry and safe. But that is not where memories come from. Standing on the top of Kilimanjaro with David is one of my best memories and it will never be forgotten. The best memories come from the best experiences. Why don’t you create a life-long memory?” [Read Andrew's story, a previous Carr Gomm Kili Climber]

After the success of our Kili Climb in 2013, we are delighted to now be partnering with World Expeditions to bring you this extraordinary challenge in February 2021, as part of Team Carr Gomm

What is this in aid of?

Team Carr Gomm is seeking to raise £60,000 via a team of at least 100 people, all doing something extraordinary, taking on a challenge and breaking down barriers. Its ultimate goal is to build connections; by encouraging people to take part in the campaign itself, and by raising money to fund activities and projects across Scotland which are bringing people together to tackle loneliness and isolation.

And what better way to tick the box of 'extraordinary' than by scaling the heights of this mighty mountain.

About the challenge

At 5895m, Africa's mighty Mount Kilimanjaro towers over the vast lands below. Beginning in the Tanzanian town of Moshi, this adventure follows the Rongai route up the mountain, approaching Kili from the north east. Passing through a variety of landscapes and climate zones including pine forest, moorland and lunar desert, the path to the summit offers stunning views along the way. The summit attempt is made in the early hours of morning, arriving at at Uhuru Peak in time for the spectacular sunrise over Mawenzi and the ice fields.

Camping throughout the trek ensures that minimal impact is made to the environment we travel in while allowing you to witness the stunning wilderness views that the mountain is famous for. Designed for mixed ability travellers, this trek allows you to experience the trip to the top of Africa's tallest mountain in the company of like minded and similarly-paced trekkers.

There will be many highlights for all individuals that take part; but here are a few to whet your appetite:

  • Trek to the summit of Africa's highest peak
  • Walk through pine forest to catch a glimpse of the Kilimanjaro Colobus Monkeys
  • Ascend to Kikelewa Caves, soaking up the superb views of Kibo on the way
  • Enjoy a real sense of wilderness at Mawenzi Tarn beneath the towering spires
  • Catch a spectacular sunrise from Gilman's Point before reaching the highest point of Mt Kilimanjaro
  • Raise crucial funds to help Carr Gomm Stomp Out Loneliness in Scotland

"I would thoroughly recommend this challenge to anyone who is interested. It was an amazing experience; absolutely pushed me to my limits and changed me as a person. I made so many new friendships and will never forget it." [Vicky, Carr Gomm Kili Climber 2013]

For this epic adventure, we are suggesting a minimum fundraising target of £1,000. Some people find this easy, whereas for others this target is a challenge...so since this is a team adventure as part of Team Carr Gomm, we're aiming for our team of Kili climbers as a whole to raise £40,000. Every part you play in helping the team reach this goal is vital; and we will be here to support you every step of the way with your fundraising efforts.

Prices will vary depending on the number of sign-ups, though will be between £2,050 - £2,150 (please note: this excludes flights, visa, tips and travel insurance).
