Work with us Career stories A Moment with Barbara Barbara, who has been working at Carr Gomm for five years, shares some of her memorable working experiences. I have a family member with a chronic and long term mental health condition. She was once upon a time supported by Carr Gomm and they did a wonderful job while working with her. So, when I was looking for a change of career, it inspired me to choose a role as a Support Practitioner. I am motivated by helping people to have meaningful days and contributing to tackling loneliness and isolation. Person-centered practice is hugely important to me - the fact Carr Gomm’s values line up with my own is a tremendous bonus. A day at Firrhill will very much vary. There is no such thing as a typical day, which makes the role even more exciting. Some days I can support a resident with a literacy class, cooking, and gardening, or even complete personal care support. Working as a Support Practitioner is remarkable. Knowing you are making a difference in people’s lives really brings an enormous sense of well-being. This sounds cliché, but really is the case.
