Nicole’s Story: giving something back

Overcoming challenges

Have you ever been so strongly impacted by something that it’s inspired you to take action? That’s exactly what happened to Nicole.

We first met Nicole when she sought some support from our Housing Support service in Argyll and Bute. Suddenly homeless and battling depression, Nicole desperately needed some advice and encouragement; and she couldn’t have imaged the road that would take her on:

Nicole from Argyll and Bute“I was referred to Carr Gomm Housing Support when my daughter and I became homeless. I had never heard of the Housing Support service before and, at first, was sceptical that they could help me. I was suffering with depression and found it hard to trust people. There was so much to do and I had recently found out I was expecting another baby; so time was running out to find a suitable home for me and my children.

My Support Workers gained my trust and, together, we tackled the problems I was faced with. Eventually, I was offered a secure tenancy. I was so happy I cried! The help didn’t stop there, though, because as soon as I moved in, I needed to apply for grants and benefits to help me carpet and furnish my new home. I couldn’t believe how much paperwork there was to go through and was so glad to receive weekly support with it.

I am now settled into my new home with my two girls and I am so grateful for all the help I received.

I was so inspired by the work that Carr Gomm Support Workers do; I wanted to help make a difference in someone’s life too. I am now a part-time Housing Support Worker and I love my new role. Without the help of Carr Gomm, I wouldn’t be where I am today!”

It is always encouraging to see the life-changing impact that our support has. We are absolutely thrilled that Nicole not only achieved her outcomes, but has now joined our Housing Support team to “make a difference in someone’s life too”. Fantastic.
